About the spread
This spread is for the times when there is no one in particular yet — or when you feel that the person you are with is not the one. It does not promise a name or a date. It helps you see what you are ready for, what you are unconsciously closing the door to and what kind of person suits you.
The top row is you and the person you are waiting for: your state in love today, what keeps love away and a portrait of your person. The bottom row is about the meeting: how it is likely to happen and what you can do to bring it closer. People who use this spread often find that the second card is the most important one.
How to do the reading
- Think about the love you would like to have, not about a specific person you already know.
- Type your question into the box above the deck if you like, for example “Who is my person and how will we meet?”. It never leaves this page.
- Press “Shuffle and deal”: three cards land in the top row and two in the bottom row.
- Turn over the cards one by one, from left to right, and read what each position means below.
- If a court card falls on “Your person”, open its page: its character is a good description of the person.
What each position means
1 You in love now
Where you are in love today: open or guarded, ready or still healing, looking or tired of looking. This card is your starting point, and it is worth reading honestly.
2 What keeps love away
What keeps love away: an old hurt, a fear of being hurt again, expectations that are too high or too vague, a lack of time, a habit of choosing the same kind of person. A favourable card here can mean that you are too comfortable alone to let anyone in.
3 Your person
A portrait of your person: character, temperament, sometimes the area of life they come from. Court cards describe people especially well — the Knight of Cups is a romantic, the King of Pentacles a reliable builder, the Queen of Wands a bright and warm leader. Major Arcana show the role the person will play in your life.
4 How you will meet
How you are likely to meet: through work or study (Pentacles), friends and celebrations (Cups), travel, sport or a new project (Wands), a conversation, the internet or an exchange of ideas (Swords). The Major Arcana point to a meeting that feels fated.
5 What brings you closer
What you can do to bring the meeting closer — the advice of the spread. It may be an action, such as saying yes to invitations, or an inner step, such as letting go of the past. This card answers the question “what now?”.
How to read the spread as a whole
Read the second and fifth cards together: the fifth often holds the answer to the obstacle shown by the second. If the third card is a Major Arcanum, the meeting will be important for your path, not only for your heart.
The spread describes a type of person and a type of meeting, not a guaranteed fate. If the portrait does not resemble anyone you are attracted to now, that is useful too — perhaps it is time to look in a different direction.
Questions about the spread
Does this spread show my one true soulmate?
It shows the kind of person and relationship that suit you at this stage of your life. Many traditions say we can have more than one soulmate; the cards describe the one you are ready for now.
Can I do it if I am already in a relationship?
You can, but the love spread or the “Does he love me?” spread will tell you more about the person you are with. If you do this one, compare the third card with your partner.
When will I meet my soulmate?
Tarot is not precise with dates. Wands in the fourth position suggest a quick meeting, Pentacles a slow one, and the advice card often shows what to change so that it happens sooner.
