About card combinations
In a spread, cards never stand alone: neighbouring cards strengthen, soften or change each other’s meaning. The Tower next to the Sun is a storm that clears; next to the Moon it is the collapse of an illusion that frightens at first. That is why experienced readers read combinations rather than single cards.
Here you can pick any two of the 78 cards and see what they mean together. Every pair of Major Arcana — the strongest cards in the deck — has its own interpretation. For pairs with Minor Arcana you get the keywords of both cards and any combination described on the card’s page.
How to use it
- Pick the first card from the deck below or search for it by name.
- Pick the second card. Both cards turn over, and their meaning together appears below them.
- Read the combination and the keywords of each card; the names lead to the full meanings.
- Press “Choose other cards” to look at another pair.
How to read a combination
The Major Arcana speak of big events and life lessons, the Minor Arcana of everyday matters. Two Major Arcana together point to something important and fateful; a Major with a Minor shows a big event playing out in a particular area of life: Wands for work and energy, Cups for feelings, Swords for thoughts and conflict, Pentacles for money and daily life.
A reversed card weakens or delays its meaning within the pair. Read the combination together with your question: the same pair sounds different in a question about love and in one about work.
Questions about combinations
How do you read a combination of two tarot cards?
First understand each card on its own, then look for what they share and how they differ. The common theme of the pair is its meaning; the keywords of each card supply the details.
Which tarot card combinations are the most positive?
Among the Major Arcana, the Sun with the World, the Star or the Lovers, the Star with the World and the Empress with the World are considered especially bright. But every pair matters in the context of the question.
Is there an interpretation for every pair of cards?
For any two Major Arcana, yes. For pairs with Minor Arcana the page shows the meanings of both cards and any combination described on the card’s page; a detailed reading for your question comes from the bot.
