About the spread

Money questions are among the most practical ones people bring to tarot: why does money not stay with me, should I expect an improvement, where should I look for income? This spread answers them in four steps and ends with concrete advice, because in matters of money the cards are most useful when they lead to action.

The top row shows the situation: your finances now and what blocks the flow of money. The bottom row shows the way forward: where money is likely to come from and what to do. The spread does not replace financial planning or professional advice; it helps you see your attitude to money and the opportunities you may be missing.

How to do the reading

  1. Think about your financial situation or a specific question about money.
  2. Type your question into the box above the deck if you like, for example “How can I improve my finances?”. It never leaves this page.
  3. Press “Shuffle and deal”: four cards land in two rows.
  4. Turn over the top row first — the situation — then the bottom row with the way forward.
  5. Read what each position means below and open a card’s page for its full meaning.

What each position means

  1. 1 Your finances now

Your finances now: not only the numbers but how you feel about money — calm or anxious, careful or careless, growing or stuck. Pentacles here describe the material situation most directly.

  2. 2 What blocks the flow

What blocks the flow of money: spending habits, debts, fear of asking for more, undervaluing your work, an unstable income or a belief that money is not for you. A reversed card often points to an inner block rather than an outer one.

  3. 3 Where money will come from

Where money is likely to come from: your work or a promotion (Pentacles), a new project or initiative (Wands), a negotiation, a contract or a smart decision (Swords), help from people or a joint venture (Cups). Major Arcana point to a change on a larger scale.

  4. 4 Advice

The advice: the most useful step to take now. It may be practical — a budget, a conversation about a raise, a new skill — or inner, such as letting go of fear around money.

How to read the spread as a whole

Count the Pentacles: the more there are, the more the reading is about concrete money matters rather than your attitude to them. The Ace of Pentacles is the classic sign of a new source of income, the Ten of Pentacles of lasting prosperity, the Six of Pentacles of giving and receiving help; the Five of Pentacles warns of a hard time and the Four of holding on too tightly.

If the second and fourth cards seem to contradict each other, read the advice as the answer to the block: it shows exactly where to start.

Questions about the spread

Can tarot tell me if I will get rich?

Tarot shows tendencies, attitudes and opportunities, not a lottery result. Use the reading to understand what helps and what hinders your finances, and act on it.

Can I ask about a specific purchase or investment?

You can ask about the energy of the decision, but do not base a serious financial decision on cards alone. For a choice between two options, the decision spread is more precise.

Which cards are best for money?

The Ace, the Nine and the Ten of Pentacles, the Wheel of Fortune, the Sun and the Empress. But even difficult cards are useful here: they show what to fix.
