Symbolism of the card
A great orange wheel hangs in the sky among clouds. On its rim are the letters T, A, R, O and four Hebrew letters of the divine name; inside it, alchemical symbols. A blue sphinx with a sword sits on top; a yellow snake slides down the left side; a red, jackal-headed figure rises on the right. In the four corners, on clouds, winged figures — an angel, an eagle, a lion and a bull — read open books.
The wheel is the cycle of time and fate: what goes down will rise, what rises will turn again. The snake descending is decline, the jackal-headed Anubis rising is renewal, and the sphinx on top stays still — the wisdom that does not change with fortune. The four creatures are the fixed signs of the zodiac and the four evangelists: around all the movement there is a stable order. The letters can be read as ROTA, TARO, ORAT — the wheel of tarot speaks.
Upright meaning
Upright, the Wheel of Fortune announces a turn of events. Things that were stuck start to move, chance encounters and unexpected opportunities appear, and luck is on your side. It is a good moment to say yes to what life offers.
The card also reminds you that everything moves in cycles. Good times will not last forever, and hard times pass too. Use the upswing wisely, stay flexible, and notice the patterns that repeat in your life — that is how you start to steer your own wheel.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the Wheel points to a downturn or delays: plans do not work out, circumstances seem against you, or the same problems keep coming back. It can feel like bad luck.
Rather than fighting what you cannot control, look at what you can change — your reactions, your habits, the patterns you repeat. Resistance makes the turn harder; acceptance and small adjustments help the wheel move up again.
Love and relationships
Upright
In love the Wheel brings a fateful turn. For single people it can mean an unexpected meeting that feels destined. For couples it marks a new stage — a positive change, a reunion, a step forward. If a relationship has been stuck, it starts to move.
Reversed
Reversed, the Wheel warns of instability, on-again-off-again relationships or repeating the same mistakes with different partners. Look at the pattern, not only at the person.
Wheel of Fortune as feelings
As feelings, the Wheel shows that this person feels your meeting was meant to be. Their feelings may be strong but changeable, moving with circumstances.
Work and money
Upright
At work the Wheel promises positive change: a new opportunity, a promotion, a lucky break or a sudden improvement in circumstances. Financially it can bring unexpected income — but do not rely on luck alone.
Reversed
Reversed, the card points to a downturn, unexpected obstacles or losses. Avoid risky moves for now and prepare a safety margin.
Health and wellbeing
The Wheel speaks of cycles in your energy and wellbeing; an improvement may be near. Reversed, it may mean recurring problems. Recurring symptoms should be discussed with a doctor.
Yes or no
Yes (upright) · No (reversed)
Upright, the Wheel of Fortune answers yes: circumstances are turning in your favour. Reversed, the answer is no for now — wait for the cycle to change.
Wheel of Fortune as advice
Go with the flow of change instead of fighting it. Seize the opportunity while the wheel turns your way, and remember that every phase passes.
As the card of the day
A day of surprises and chances. Be open to the unexpected — a random meeting or offer may turn out to be important.
