Symbolism of the card

A figure in a red robe sits on a throne between two grey pillars, a purple curtain hanging behind. On the head is a crown with a small square jewel. The right hand holds a double-edged sword pointing straight up; the left holds golden scales. Under the robe a white shoe peeks out.

The scales weigh facts and arguments impartially; the double-edged sword cuts both ways — a decision has consequences for everyone, including the one who makes it. The upright sword is clarity and truth. Unlike the classic image of justice, this figure is not blindfolded: she sees everything and judges with open eyes. The white shoe hints that a step will follow the verdict — justice leads to action.

Upright meaning

Upright, Justice says that things will be decided fairly. If you have acted honestly, you will be treated honestly; if not, consequences will come. It is a card of contracts, legal matters, official decisions and important choices that need an objective look.

It also asks you to take responsibility. Look at the situation as it is, without excuses, weigh the arguments and choose what is right rather than what is convenient. Honesty — with others and with yourself — is your strongest position now.

Reversed meaning

Justice (reversed)

Reversed, Justice points to unfairness: a biased decision, dishonesty, a dispute that does not go your way, or someone avoiding responsibility. It may also be you who is not seeing the situation objectively or is avoiding the consequences of your own choices.

Check documents carefully, gather evidence, and seek proper advice in legal matters. Admitting your part, where it exists, is the first step to restoring balance.

Love and relationships

Upright

In love Justice favours honest, balanced relationships where both partners give and receive equally. For single people it can mean a partner who matches your values. For couples, it is a time for frank conversations and fair agreements; sometimes it points to official steps, such as marriage or a legal arrangement.

Reversed

Reversed, the card warns of imbalance — one partner gives much more than the other — of dishonesty or of blame instead of dialogue. In separations it can point to an unfair division. Insist on fairness calmly.

Justice as feelings

As feelings, Justice shows that this person respects you and is trying to be fair and rational about their feelings. They are weighing things carefully rather than acting on impulse.

Work and money

Upright

At work Justice favours contracts, negotiations, law, finance and decisions based on merit. You will be rewarded according to your work. In money matters, clear agreements and honest dealings are protected; legal and official questions tend to be resolved fairly.

Reversed

Reversed, the card warns of unfair treatment, disputes, problems with documents or dishonest partners. Read everything before signing and keep records.

Health and wellbeing

Justice speaks of balance: a healthy lifestyle now brings visible results, and the body reflects past habits. Reversed, it may point to imbalance. Any health concern is a question for a doctor.

Yes or no

Maybe (upright) · No (reversed)

Upright, Justice answers maybe: the outcome will be fair, so it depends on the facts and on how honestly you have acted. Reversed, the answer is no — the situation is out of balance.
