Symbolism of the card

From the clouds an angel with great wings blows a golden trumpet hung with a white banner bearing a red cross. Below, on the water, float open coffins, and from them rise grey, naked figures — a man, a woman and a child — lifting their arms towards the sound. In the background stand white, snowy mountains.

The trumpet is the call of resurrection: something in you wakes up and cannot go back to sleep. The figures rising from the coffins are the parts of life that seemed finished — they return transformed. The family together shows that the awakening concerns not only one person but the whole circle of relationships. The red cross on white is the meeting of spirit and matter, and the mountains, as in other cards, are the abstract truth that stands behind everything.

Upright meaning

Upright, Judgement says that a moment of truth has come. You see your past clearly — its mistakes and its achievements — and you are ready to draw conclusions, forgive yourself and others, and step into a new stage. It often feels like an inner calling: you know what you have to do.

The card also marks important decisions and results: what you did earlier now bears fruit. It may bring a second chance, a reunion or the return of something you thought was lost. Answer the call — this renewal is real.

Reversed meaning

Judgement (reversed)

Reversed, Judgement shows that you hear the call but do not answer it — out of fear, doubt or attachment to the past. It can also point to harsh self-criticism, guilt you cannot let go of, or judging others too strictly.

The past cannot be changed, but its lessons can be learned. Forgive yourself for what you did not know then, and take one step towards what you feel is calling you.

Love and relationships

Upright

In love Judgement brings renewal. For single people it may mean being ready for a new relationship after understanding past ones. For couples it can mean a new beginning, a reconciliation or a decision to take the relationship to a deeper level. Sometimes it points to the return of a former partner.

Reversed

Reversed, the card warns of reproaches, dwelling on old mistakes or being unable to forgive. A relationship cannot renew itself while the past is constantly brought up.

Judgement as feelings

As feelings, Judgement shows that this person sees you in a new light, has reconsidered their feelings and may want to make a fresh start or get back together.

Work and money

Upright

At work Judgement favours important decisions, a change of profession towards your calling, evaluations and results. Your past efforts are recognised. Financially, a time to review and reorganise for the long term.

Reversed

Reversed, the card points to missed opportunities, fear of change or dissatisfaction with your career. Ask yourself what you really want to do.

Health and wellbeing

Judgement speaks of renewal and recovery, and of a new attitude towards your body. Reversed, it may mean ignoring signals you should not ignore. Consult a doctor about any health concerns.

Yes or no

Yes (upright) · Maybe (reversed)

Upright, Judgement answers yes: the time has come, act. Reversed, the answer is maybe — first let go of doubts and of the past.
