Symbolism of the card

A naked woman kneels by a pool under a night sky. One foot rests on the water, one knee on the land. From two jugs she pours water: one stream flows into the pool, the other onto the earth, where it divides into five little rivulets. Above her shines a large eight-pointed star, surrounded by seven smaller white stars. On a tree in the background sits an ibis.

After the Tower’s catastrophe, the Star brings stillness. Her nakedness is vulnerability and honesty — nothing left to hide. The water poured into the pool renews feelings; the water poured onto the land nourishes the material world, and the five streams are the five senses. The great star is guidance and hope, the seven small ones the classical planets. The ibis, the bird of Thoth, stands for wisdom and the renewal of thought.

Upright meaning

Upright, the Star says that the worst is behind you. Healing has begun — emotionally, physically or in your circumstances — and you can breathe again. It is a time of hope, inspiration and trust that the future holds good things.

The card invites you to open up, dream and believe in your goals again. Creativity flows easily, and your sincerity and generosity attract the right people. Take care of yourself gently and keep following your guiding star: you are moving in the right direction.

Reversed meaning

The Star (reversed)

Reversed, the Star shows that hope has dimmed. You may feel discouraged, disconnected from your purpose or doubt that things will ever improve. Disappointments have left their mark.

The light has not gone out — it is just covered by clouds. Look for small sources of hope: a walk, a conversation, a simple daily ritual. Reconnect with what once inspired you and allow yourself time to heal.

Love and relationships

Upright

In love the Star brings hope and healing. For single people it can mean meeting someone inspiring after a hard period, or simply being open to love again. For couples it promises renewal, tenderness and faith in a shared future. Old wounds can close.

Reversed

Reversed, the card warns of disappointment, unrealistic expectations or fear of opening up after being hurt. Be patient with yourself and with your partner.

The Star as feelings

As feelings, the Star shows that this person admires you and feels hopeful and inspired around you. They see something pure and special in you and may idealise you a little.

Work and money

Upright

At work the Star favours creative projects, new ideas and recognition. It is a good time to pursue a dream career or to rebuild after setbacks. Financially, things are improving gradually.

Reversed

Reversed, the card points to lack of motivation, loss of faith in your work or creative block. Remind yourself why you started and set small, achievable goals.

Health and wellbeing

The Star is one of the most hopeful cards for wellbeing: recovery, renewal and peace of mind. Reversed, it may mean low energy or low mood. Consult a doctor about any health concern.

Yes or no

Yes (upright) · Maybe (reversed)

Upright, the Star answers yes: there is every reason for hope. Reversed, the answer is maybe — the outcome depends on regaining faith in yourself.
