Symbolism of the card
A hand emerges from a cloud holding a golden cup. Five streams of water pour from it into a pond covered with water lilies, and drops fall like rain. A white dove descends towards the cup, carrying a round wafer marked with a cross.
The overflowing cup is a heart so full that it gives freely; the five streams are the five senses through which love is felt. The dove and the wafer are the spirit entering the heart — peace, grace, blessing. The lilies on still water show emotions that are calm and open. Everything in the card speaks of abundance offered, not taken.
Upright meaning
Upright, the Ace of Cups announces the beginning of something emotionally significant: a new love, a deep friendship, the birth of a child in the family, a creative inspiration or simply a period of tenderness and joy.
The card invites you to open your heart. Accept love — from others and from yourself — and share it. Feelings now flow easily, intuition is strong and kindness brings rewards.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the Ace of Cups shows that emotions are blocked or poured out in the wrong direction. You may feel empty, closed after a disappointment, or give love to others while forgetting yourself.
Allow yourself to feel what you feel. Fill your own cup first — rest, self-care, honest emotions — and the capacity to love will return.
